Take it to the Streets!

"Take it to the Streets" was the leading motto German-French  Band COLEÜMES started with in 1998 when they decided to try to reach the souls of the people in Ecuador by the use of language and music. They were invited by German journalist Siegmund Thies who is now living in Quito. Together with his Ecuadorian colleague Alejandro Santillàn they shot the extraordinary film  "Reise ins Jahr 10.027" to document the journey of the musicians.  The documentation was produced by German television company ZDF and ARTE broadcasted the film in German and French television in the year 1999.
Travelling Ecuador the Coleümes met marimba-master Papá Roncón. Together they visited some of the Afro-Ecuadorian and Chachi communities. The Chachi are the indigenous people of a unique area of the rainforest in the north of Ecuador,  thee natural reservoir  Cotacachi-Cayapas.
Visiting Germany

The Ecuadorian musicians were able to visit Germany one and a half years after their first meeting. Singer Elias Vera and the trio "Katanga" that includes the singer Papá Roncón got onto a journey  to  the Expo 200 in Hannover. For one week they played there as a combined project group with the Coleümes and "Las Experiencias" from Guayaquil.
The Ecuadorian musicians and the Coleümes were touring in Germany for a whole summer and inspired with traditional marimba- music and interpretations of the Pasillo. The CD "Vision" was presented live for the first time. Besides Latino rhythms, Afro- Ecuadorian sounds, waltz and musette the musicians used the concerts to inform about the country Ecuador.

Founding of Proyecto Visión

In 2007 the musicians from Ecuador visited Germany again: They were performing for the anniversary of the city of Mannheim as well as in Leipzig, Dessau and Berlin (Events). In the preparations for the tour there already arose the idea for the cultural centre in Borbón. It is meant to support the people of the province Esmeraldas and strengthen the exchange between Ecuador and Germany. In June of 2007 the association Proyecto Visión e.V. was founded. (Charter).
