Borbón Borbón is located in the natural reserve Cayapas-Mataje in the province of Esmeraldas which is in the north of Ecuador on the coast of the pacific ocean. The main part of the reserve consists of a mangrove forest. Besides the mangroves you can also find arms of the ocean, swamps, dry woods and the coastal area in Cayapas-Mataje. Their connection forms a special and unique ecosystem. The natural reserve is home for a large biodiversity, that is especially distinguished by its strong saltwater tolerance. The people of Borbón are mainly of African origin.
