Exchange through music

Katanga – possessed by the devil and talking about virgins– Borbón / Province of Esmeraldas, Ecuador
Papá Roncón- Marimba, Vocals
Catalina Mina Quintero- Vocals, Percussion
Rosa Huila- Vocals, Percussion
Guillermo Ayovi Erazo better known as "Papá Roncón", knows the history of his people like nobody else. As ambassador for his culture he regularly performs at international music festivals. In 1990 he already traveled the US and the UNESCO invited him to Berlin and Paris in 1995. Together with Rosa Huila and Catalina Mina Quintero they form the Afro- Ecuadorian all star ensemble
Katanga. For the Trio music rhythm and dancing are important parts of their everyday lives. Weddings, births and funerals give occasions to play music as well as fishing, hunting and housework. Songs are inspired by mythological figures, the forest, rivers and the mountains. Their music is an unforgettable homage to life – a life that could easily disappear with the rainforest of Esmeraldas!

Las Esperiencias –  those explaining the dance of short steps– Guayaquil| Province of Guayas, Ecuador
José Paredes- Vocals, Maracas
Víctor Armijos- Requinto
Misael Campos- Guitar
The music by the band Las Esperiencias which is lead by singer and philosopher José Paredes has its backgrounds in the tropical nights in the seaport of Guayaquil. The Pasillo and the Bolero are Keys to the soul and the pride of a whole people. With soulful melodies and wishful lyrics they evoke the great and undying love.  The erotic rhythms reduce the yesterday and tomorrow with the swing of a hip to just one instant moment, the present. Julio Jaramillio, the unforgettable, is a role model for all the musicians in town. In the 1960s and 70s he brought the  Pasillo, also called "baile de pasos cortos" or „dance of short steps", from Mexico via Buenos Aires all the way to New York and made the dance popular there.
